Smoking blows brain in fumes, vaping doesn’t help either

by Daniel Tomas on 10 February 2015
Health     |      smoke,  vaping

As youths, we’re all confident there is no barrier we can’t overcome or, in fewer words, the sky is the limit. But as we grow into adulthood, we’re starting to feel reality’s burden slowly creeping in like a thieve lunging for your wallet.

When scientists said that nicotine is the sole purpose for smoking, deeming it one of the most addictive drugs out there, many smokers laughed it off, reverting to excuses like “you have to die because of something” or “no way I’m addicted, I smoke because I like it”.

Be that as it may, but science doesn’t lie and doesn’t forgive.

And now, science has just delivered yet more evidence chiseling into smokers’ confidence that smoking is not that harmful. Loss of brain’s gray matter happens faster in smokers than in non-smokers.

Last time one of my colleagues wrote an article on smoking, there was a big fuss, and we received quite a lot of criticism over not reflecting the whole reality.

There you go, my friends, it’s reality hitting you in the face again. And it’s from AFP and the Nature journal Molecular Psychiatry. The study was conducted on 700 Scottish people and boils it down to the following conclusion: if you smoke, you’ re risking brain damage as you enter into your 70’s.

While smoker have recently cooled off and prefer a subtler approach, now there’s a new kind of species, just as aggressive smokers used to be. The new “Sid Vicious” comes from the e-cigarettes industry and he is willing to go to the longest lengths to defend his Chinese made puffing device. Now you’re supposed to gradually switch from smoking to vaping and then…what do you know… to quitting. There is no way they’re trying to keep you hooked on a new device, no, they are very very sincere.

One final note : comments from our critics are more than welcome, but, please all industry fellows out there, enjoy it, don’t stress!

Good luck on overcoming your unhealthy addiction to shaming others. May you be as successful as I was in quitting smoking.
